India Is Ready — Why OpenAI Should Enable UPI for GPT Subscriptions
“The intelligence of a civilization lies not only in its tools, but in how easily its people can access them

India is awakening to the power of AI — not just as consumers, but as contributors, thinkers, creators. Across villages, classrooms, laboratories, and spiritual spaces, there is a surge of curiosity: How can we make AI work for us?
Yet, one barrier stops millions from joining this global renaissance:
Lack of UPI support for GPT subscriptions.
As of now, Indian users must rely on international credit cards, often restricted by banks, entangled in foreign transaction fees, or simply unavailable to students, freelancers, or rural seekers.
Meanwhile, the rest of the nation thrives on something far simpler:
UPI – India’s Unified Payments Interface.
- 1,000+ million transactions per month
- Zero fees, instant, and secure
- Supported by every Indian bank, wallet, and payment app
- Approved for recurring subscriptions

Why OpenAI Needs to Enable UPI
- Democratize Access: Students, researchers, and creators in India cannot access GPT-4 — not due to lack of intent, but lack of payment access.
- Unlock a Giant Market: India is not a fringe user base. It’s one of the world’s most active AI adopter regions, with millions eager to subscribe — if only the door opened.
- Support Ethical, Sovereign Tech Usage: UPI is privacy-conscious, government-regulated, and backed by a robust ecosystem. It’s aligned with the ethics OpenAI claims to support.
- Strategic Presence: This isn’t just a payment feature. It’s a path to deeper engagement. India needs localized AI, culturally rooted tools, and educational partnerships. UPI is a first handshake.
A Personal Appeal
As a PhD scholar, educator, and founder of Shunya Axis 2.0, I’m building an integrative platform that merges AI, ancient Indian knowledge systems, and youth education.
I’ve explored Acharya Bose’s science, Ramanujan’s intuitive math, and Bhakti-rooted technology — all woven with modern AI tools like ChatGPT. But despite this vision, I’m struggling to maintain a GPT subscription because of outdated payment limits.
And I’m not alone.
From government schools to research institutes, rural innovators to indie coders — India is ready.
All we need is one step from OpenAI.
Request
Please enable UPI payments for GPT Plus and future OpenAI services in India.
This small action could unlock a tsunami of learning, innovation, and conscious technology development.
